Notice of Gun Permit requirement changes


The Porter Co. Sheriff’s Department wants the public to know that as of January 14, 2013 everyone that lives in unincorporated Porter Co., and is applying for a gun permit, must have their fingerprints submitted electronically by L1 Solutions.


Once an applicant applies online with the state they must complete the next two steps in any order within 30 days. Both steps must be completed but it doesn’t matter which is done first.


Schedule an appointment with L1 Solutions online – no walk-ins are allowed. L1 charges $9.95 for the electronic prints and will also collect the state’s application fee.

**Please note that on January 14 the Sheriff’s Dept. will no longer be fingerprinting for gun permits at the station, applicants must go to L1 for prints.**


Applicants must also come to the Sheriff’s Dept. 8:30am -3:30pm Mon-Fri except holidays, with a money order

(no cash, personal checks or credit cards will be accepted) for the local fee and to sign their application.
