Sheriff David Lain and Lake County Sheriff Roy Dominguez
On March 24, 2009 Sheriff Lain met with 3
representatives of the Old Sheriff’s House and Jail
Foundation from Crown Point, along with Lake County
Sheriff Roy Dominguez to talk of history and to find
ways to help preserve the old jail in Crown Point. The
two Sheriffs committed to using their respective
departments’ Thompson sub machineguns in a way that will
help bring money to the Foundation. (NOT as John
Dilinger used them when he stole them during his
breakout in 1934. No banks will be robbed in this
effort.)
Mr. Hathaway, who joined the Lake Co. Sheriffs’ Dept. in
1949 and became the first Warden of the new jail when it
opened was also kind enough to date several of the
badges from his old department that are in Sheriff
Lain’s collection.
