What's Happening at The Porter County Sheriff's Department

67 Impala SS on Parade

The last of the season’s holiday and festival parades ended with the Popcorn Festival on September 6th. The Sheriff’s Department’s 1967 Impala SS was a hit with all of the spectators and we were honored to have our “Stay Away From Drugs” essay winners ride with us this year.

Summer drew to a close with Kouts Porkfest parade, and although we didn’t have a camera available, David Rorex was our essay winner, along with his brother Dorian Rorex who got to ride in an available seat.

Their hero father was a Gary police officer killed in the line of duty.

The car has been very popular in this its inaugural year. We hope that the attention it receives can help turn some of our young people away from a life of misery (or worse) due to substance abuse.

On Labor Day, the metropolis of Malden celebrated with their annual parade through their downtown. We were there too with contest winners Ben Johansen, Brianna Spicer and Shelby Keehn, who are pictured with Sheriff David Lain.

The 30th Popcorn Festival parade also had the ’67 as an entry. The essay winner riding was Louie Greanias who helped Sheriff Lain distribute candy to the throngs of people along the route.
