Bill Masterson, the Publisher of the Times newspaper and Don Asher, the Deputy Executive Editor met with Sheriff David Lain recently to take a tour of the Sheriff’s Department and jail. During the visit they posed with the Colt Thompson sub machinegun that was stolen during the 1934 escape of John Dillinger. The Sheriff completed a thorough safety check of the gun before handing it off to the two journalists. They can each be seen graphically illustrating the phrase “the power of the press”.
