Jail officer Brian Bowles is a 2002 graduate of Portage High School and graduate
of the Porter County Career and Technical Education (PCCTE) Law Enforcement
Career Academy. Brian is the first person many of the inmates see as they
enter the Porter County Jain. He is responsible for their personal
property and for recording "identifiers", characteristics of the new inmate.
"This is a great place as a beginning position in law enforcement", said Brian.
"This job make s you aware of your surroundings at all times." Brian
credits his PCCTE Law Enforcement teacher, Bill Woods, for preparing him well.
"He took us to old crime scenes, had us shoot a handgun, and has us learn how to
fingerprint." He liked the hands-on nature of the class that made in it
interesting so "you did not even notice you were learning something."
