Porter County Sheriff's Department: "Battle of the
Badges"
The Porter County Sheriff's Department and the American
Red Cross is sponsoring a "Battle of the Badges" blood
drive against the public safety agencies of Lake County.
The blood drive will be hosted at the Porter County
Expo. Center from 12pm to 6pm on Wednesday, June 14th. A
free t-shirt will be given to every donor.
Last year, Porter County prevailed with 126 donations to
Lake County's 91 units. We are hoping to prevail again
this year.
Come show your support for Porter County public safety
agencies and donate blood. You can reserve your time by
calling the American Red Cross, Porter County Chapter at

Battle of the Badge
Lake County wins blood drive honors

CROWN POINT | It was billed as the Battle of the Badge
earlier this summer.
Lake County and Porter County sheriff's departments
competed for the third straight year to see who could
draw more donors to the annual Hats Off To Heroes Blood
Drive sponsored by the American Red Cross of Northwest
Indiana. Last year Porter County won, but this
year, as the scene shifted to Crown Point, Lake County
proved victorious with 94 votes by presenting donors to
70 for the Porter County Sheriff's Department. The
real winners were patients needing blood, since 133
units were collected during a critical period for the
American Red Cross, when regular blood donors take
summer vacations. Since Lake County took top
honors in votes, Porter County officials stopped by
Tuesday to "hand over" the traveling trophy at the Lake
County Sheriff's Department. No officer from the
Porter County Sheriff's Department wanted to perform the
unappealing task, however, so the bomb disposal robot
from Porter County was called into action. "We
just want to say thank you, you really made a
difference," said Lori Caputo of the American Red Cross
office in Merrillville. |
