The Porter County Sheriff's Dept., along with Sheriff David M. Reynolds, will
be sponsoring a basketball tournament and Free-throw contest on April 27 and 28,
2002. The Free Throw contest will be on Saturday April 27th and is open to children
7-14 years of age. Shoot around will start at 9:00 am with the contest starting
promptly at 9:30 am. If you are interested in signing up, contact the Porter County Sheriff's
Department at 465-1515. The tourney and contest will be held at the Wheeler High School in Union Twp.
The tourney will feature teams from numerous local police and fire departments
throughout Northwest Indiana. The Valparaiso Police Dept. team took first place
last year. Proceeds from the tourney will be donated to the Law Enforcement Careers
Academy. The academy is a high school vocational educational program which
provides students throughout Northwest Indiana with career information and
training about law enforcement and other criminal justice fields. This
tournament has raised over $3,000 for the program over the past three
years.
