Sheriff's Department to Host Free Throw Contest

The Porter County Sheriff's Dept., along with Sheriff David M. Reynolds, will be sponsoring a basketball tournament and Free-throw contest on April 27 and 28, 2002.  The Free Throw contest will be on Saturday April 27th and is open to children 7-14 years of age. Shoot around will start at 9:00 am with the contest starting promptly at 9:30 am.  If you are interested in signing up, contact the Porter County Sheriff's Office at 465-1515.  The tourney and contest will be held at the Wheeler High School in Union Twp. The tourney will feature teams from numerous local police and fire departments throughout Northwest Indiana. The Valparaiso Police Dept. team took first place last year. Proceeds from the tourney will be donated to the Law Enforcement Careers Academy. The academy is a high school vocational educational program which provides students throughout Northwest Indiana with career information and training about law enforcement and other criminal justice fields. This tournament has raised over $3,000 for the program over the past three years.
