Porter County Sheriff David Reynolds was recognized by
the Caring Place board last Tuesday night (Feb 13) for his support of
educational and training programs and officer training to help victims of
domestic and sexual assault. Sheriff Reynolds received the "Making a Difference
Award" during the annual board meeting and volunteer recognition dinner
held at the Court Restaurant. Reynolds was recognized for "making a difference" in the lives
of victims of domestic violence, seeing that county police officers understand
the needs of victims. He has worked closely with the mayors' commission on domestic
violence in Portage and Valparaiso said Charlotte Conjelko before the dinner.
She is the community awareness director for the Caring Place Inc, a shelter for
battered women and children which serves Porter, Lake and Starke counties. County officers are trained to thoroughly investigate reports of
domestic violence and sexual assault and show compassion for the victim,
Conjelko said. She said Reynolds has worked with community groups toward
educating officers and the public about the seriousness of domestic
violence. Reynolds called it a real honor to receive the award. He said
the Caring Place plays an important role in educating police and the public to
domestic violence. |
