Officer Gene Hopkins and Benny meet students from Cook's Corners

Porter County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy
Dave Lain presented certificates of appreciation to the
people who purchased soft body armor for the 
Department's five canines. The ceremony was held
at Cooks Corner's Elementary School. The members of that
school's Student Council Service Learning Club raised funds
for the first dog's vest. The Valparaiso Kennel Club provided
funds for two more vests. John Sandberg, owner of Sandberg's
Towing and Dave Mullins, owner of Dave's Automotive in Valpo,
each bought a vest. Also present to say thanks were Officer 
Gene Hopkins with his partner, Benny.
