Porter County Jail

With the jail population soaring to new all time highs, 
many prisoners are in custody for violent
 crimes and have gang affiliations.

The need for a unit with specialized training to deal
 with these high risk inmates was recognized and in April of 
1997, the Specialized Response Team (SRT) was formed.

 Along with day to day operations, the team handles small 
disturbances and violent inmate cell extractions. They are very
knowledgeable of the facilities mechanical layout 
as well and train on a regular basis.
