The
dispatch center is a primary answering location for all wire-line
911 calls for unincorporated Porter County, along with the towns of
Portage, Kouts, Hebron, Chesterton, Porter, Ogden Dunes, Beverly Shores and
the Town of Pine.
Wireless
911 calls are also answered at this center for 911 cell phone
signals that are received by cell tower locations in and around the
borders of Porter County. All the Fire Departments in Porter
County are dispatched from this facility.
Primary
Emergency Medical agencies dispatched by this center include the
Porter Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Service, the South Haven
Fire Department Emergency Medical Service and the Lakes of Four
Seasons Emergency Medical services.
Police
agencies that are dispatched by this center are the Porter County
Sheriff's Police, Kouts Police, Hebron Police, Ogden Dunes Police,
Beverly Shores Police and Burns Harbor Police.
There are
35 full time dispatch operators work three shifts in a 24 hour day.
All dispatchers rotate between Police, Fire and Emergency Medical
dispatch duties and during the course of their schedule.
All
dispatchers are certified as Emergency Medical Dispatchers through
the National Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch program. This
system provides callers with pre-arrival medical instructions,
including CPR, while help is on the way.
Other
notification or call out services that are provided for, are for The
Porter County Emergency Management Agency, The Porter county
Environmental Agency, The Porter County Coroner and The Porter
County Animal Control Agency.
This
center has satellite weather service monitoring and one of the
Porter County emergency siren activation control units to activate
all the emergency sirens on the system around the county
